Description

For sample adults, SUN1SNSL reports how likely the respondent was to use sunscreen if outside on a sunny day for more than one hour.

The format of the question changed slightly between 1992 and 1998, but the response categories and universe were the same. If the respondent stated that they did not go out in the sun, the 1992 Manual also directed interviewers to, "Ask what would happen IF he/she were out in the sun."

Comparability

Although there is a slight change in the instructions given in the Field Representative's Manual between 1992 and 1998, SUN1SNSL is generally comparable across years.

Universe

  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2, and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement).
  • 1998: Sample adults age 18+.
