Description

STEPSTOHOME indicates whether the person must use steps to enter their dwelling from the outside. If steps are used, STEPSTOHOME indicates whether there are one or more steps. For multi-unit structures, stairs or steps inside the building used to gain access to the unit are counted, as well as stairs or steps from outside the building.

Comparability

Changes to the universe will reduce comparability over time. In 1984, the universe for STEPSTOHOME is sample persons age 55 and older. In 1986, the universe for this variable is persons age 65 and over. Please see the Universe tab for more details.
