Description
In 1992, for respondents age 18 and older who have ever smoked at least 100 cigarettes, this variable reports the age at which the respondent first started smoking cigarettes. In 2015, for sample adults 18 and older who have not smoked 100 cigarettes in their lifetime but have smoked a cigarette at least once in their lifetime, this variable reports the age at which the respondent smoked a cigarette for the first time.

Comparability
This variable is only available in 1992 and 2015. There are significant comparability issues with this variable.
In 1992, the universe for this variable is limited to respondents 18 and older who had smoked at least 100 cigarettes. However, in 2015, this universe for this variable is sample adults who have not smoked or don't know if they have smoked at least 100 cigarettes, but have smoked at least one cigarette SMOKEPUFFEV.
Universe
- 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2, and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CACT supplement) who have smoked 100 cigarettes.
- 2015: Sample adults 18+ who have not smoked or don’t know if smoked 100+ cigarettes in lifetime but have smoked at least one cigarette
