Description

For sample respondents age 18 and over, who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes and who are current smokers, this variable indicates how often in the past 12 months respondents were asked not to smoke while they were smoking or were about to smoke.

 

Respondents were handed a card with categories of "never," "once or twice," "several times," or "many times."

Comparability

This variable is only available for 1992.

Universe

  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2, and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement) who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes and who smoke now, or who are some day smokers who have smoked at least once in the past 30 days, or are some days smokers for whom it was unknown if they had smoked in the past 30 days.
