Description

For respondents age 18 and over who currently smoke some days or not at all and have ever smoked every day, SMOKDALYGT1Y reports whether the respondent last smoked cigarettes every day within the past year or more than 1 year ago.

Related Variables

This variable is a follow-up probe question to SMOKDALYLNO, which indicates the time period in the number of days, weeks, months or years, since the respondent last smoked every day. Respondents who provided answers in the number of days or weeks, or did not know in SMOKDALYLNO were asked the question for SMOKDALYGT1Y to clarify the length of time.

Comparability

This variable is only available in 1991.

Universe

  • 1991: Sample adults age 18+ who ever smoked 100 cigarettes and currently smoke some days OR who currently smoke not at all but who ever smoked every day and reported last smoking cigarettes every day as 1 year or 12 months ago (or for whom it was unknown when they last smoked cigarettes).
