Description

For sample respondents age 18 and over who have worked in the past 2 weeks for a private company or the federal, state, or local government, worked mainly indoors and smoke on some days, this variable reports if the respondent ever smoked while at work.

Comparability

Apart from changes in the universe, this variable is comparable between 1992 and 1994.

Universe

  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2, and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement) who have a job with a private company or the federal, state or local government, who were employed during the past two weeks, and who smoke now or said they don't smoke now but smoke some days.
  • 1994: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from AIDS supplement) who have a job with a private company or the federal, state or local government, who were employed during the past two weeks, and who currently smoke every day or some days.
