Description

For persons under age 18 with one or more working smoke detectors in the home, SMOKALOTHCH reports whether the sample adult in the child's household knows the smoke detector works for some reason other than the respondent having tested the detector(s), changed the batteries, the detector(s) going off because of cooking, going off because of other smoke, the light is on, or that it hasn't beeped because of low battery. The answer provided by the household sample adult was applied to the person record for any children under age 18 in the household; children's records should not be interpreted as meaning that the child reported that the smoke detector works.
