Description
SKNXMEYR reports when the respondent had their most recent skin exam in grouped year categories.
In 2000 and 2005, this question was asked of sample adults who ever had a skin cancer exam (SKNCANX) and who refused or did not know the date of the last exam. In 2010 and 2015, the question was asked of sample adults who ever had a skin exam (SKNCANX) and either refused or did not know the date of the exam or gave the date in the time period format.
Researchers are advised to use SKNXMGYR instead of SKNXMEY because while the former variable recodes responses from all of the other time format questions, the later variable was asked of a more restricted universe of respondents.
In 2000 and 2005, but not in 2010 or 2015, respondents were shown a flashcard listing the acceptable response categories. These included, "A year ago or less," "More than 1 year but not more than 2 years," "More than 2 years but not more than 3 years," "More than 3 years but not more than 5 years," and "Over 5 years ago." In all years, the survey form instructed interviewers to read all responses to the respondent.
