Description

For sample persons ages 18 and older who have at least four full siblings who have been diagnosed by a doctor with cancer and can report a valid cancer code for his or her fourth full sibling with cancer, SIB4CTYPE reports the type of cancer the fourth sibling had, based on International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code.

Versions of this variable are available for up to five full siblings who were ever diagnosed with cancer. Please use the drop down menu and search function for related variables.

Comparability

There are no comparability issues with this variable.

Universe

  • 1987: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from CACT) who have at least 4 siblings (or an unknown number of siblings), for whom any siblings have been diagnosed with cancer, and whose fourth sibling reported as having known cancer has a valid cancer code.
