SHOWALKHAV indicates whether the person has a walk-in shower, that is, a shower where one does not need to step over the side of the tub to get into the shower, in their house or apartment.

SHOWALKHAV was introduced in 1984 as part of the Study on Aging. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

Changes to the universe will reduce comparability over time. In 1984, the universe for SHOWALKHAV is sample persons age 55 and older. In 1986, the universe for this variable is persons age 65 and over. Please see the Universe tab for more details.
