Description

For all persons who are a brother or sister of the family reference person, RELSIB reports the degree of sibling relationship between the person and the family reference person. Please see the comparability tab for more information about changes in response categories.

Comparability

Beginning in 2013, the number of response categories was reduced. Full brother or sister was combined with the category adopted brother or sister. The only other possible response categories beginning in 2013 are half brother/sister, step brother/sister, brother/sister-in-law, or other and unknown. Persons may collapse the more expansive response categories from previous years to create responses comparable with the 2013 response categories.
