Description
For sample persons age 18 and older who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes, don't currently smoke, but don't remember when she/he quit, QUITYR reports if the person quit smoking within the past year.
Comparability
Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
Universe
1997: Sample adults age 18+ in quarters 3 and 4 who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes, don't currently smoke, and don't know when quit.
1998-2003: Sample adults age 18+ who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes, don't currently smoke, and don't know when quit.
