Description

For male sample adults aged 40 years and older, PSAKNOW indicates whether the respondent had ever heard of a PSA test.

 

This was the first question in sections about PSA testing in the 1999, 2000 and 2003 surveys. In 2000 and 2003, this question was prefaced with the statement, "The following questions are about men's health."

In 2000 and 2003, the survey form directed interviewers to read the following if necessary, "A PSA test is a blood test to detect prostate cancer."

Comparability

The question wording changed slightly from 1999 to 2000 and 2003 (see Survey Text tab). However, the question did not change substantively and PSAKNOW is generally comparable across time.

Universe

  • 1999-2000: Male sample adults age 40+.
  • 2003: Male sample adults age 40+.
