Description

For children under age 10, POISCENHEARCH reports if the sample person in the child's household had heard of poison control centers. Poison control centers are places that provide free information or consultation in the event of a poison emergency. The answer provided by the household sample adult was applied to the person record for any children under age 10 in the household; children's records should not be interpreted as meaning that the child had heard of poison control centers.
POISCENHEARCH was first introduced in 1985 as part of the Health Promotion and Child Safety Supplement. For related variables and more information about this supplement, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
