Description

For persons who reported at least one foot problem during the past 12 months, who still have the problem, who considered getting professional care for the problem, who did not get medical care for the foot problems in the past 12 months, and who were not covered by health insurance that would pay for the treatment of the foot problem, PODIFINS indicates whether or not the person would have sought treatment for his or her foot problem if that treatment had been covered by insurance.

PODIFINS was introduced in 1990 as part of the NHIS Podiatry Supplement. The purpose of this supplement is to obtain current data concerning problems with the feet, access to foot care, and the amount, frequency, and type of foot care obtained. For related variables and more information about this supplement, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
