For all persons, PODCTOE indicates whether the respondent reported that anyone in the family had had a deformity of the toe or joint including hammer toe, claw toe, and missing toes during the past 12 months.

PODCTOE is part of the NHIS Podiatry Supplement, introduced in 1990. The purpose of this supplement is to obtain current data concerning problems with the feet, access to foot care, and the amount, frequency, and type of foot care obtained.
