Description
For sample persons age 18 and over who worked with harmful substances or were exposed to radiation at their current job and had protective gear available but didn't always use it (PGEAROFT), PGEARNOUNC reports that a reason the person gave for not wearing protection was that the gear was uncomfortable. Persons were handed a card with five reasons, or could specify some other reason, and asked to indicate all that applied.
Examples of protective gear included gloves, respirator, filter mask, boots, ear plugs, and film badge.
PGEARNOUNC was part of the Cancer Epidemiology Supplement, part of the larger 1992 Cancer Risk Factors Supplement, which collected data on dietary intake, the use of cancer screening tests, knowledge and behavioral risk factors for the most common cancers, access to medical care and tobacco use.
