Description

For sample adults, PEACHSIZ reports the respondent's average portion size (small, medium, or large) when having canned or fresh peaches in a specified time period. Researchers may wish to use PEACHSIZ in conjunction with PEACHNO, which reports the frequency with which the respondent consumed peaches, and PEACHTP, which reports the corresponding time unit.

PEACHSIZ is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 related to food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2 and 2 weeks in quarter 3 (excluded from CACT supplement) who consumed peaches during the past year.
