Codes and Frequencies
Description
For female sample persons aged 18 and over who ever had Pap smear (1999), ever had a Pap smear but did not give an exact date (1987 and 1992), or selected a number and time period format reporting the time since their last Pap smear (2000 and thereafter), PAPLNO reports the number of units for the time since her most recent Pap smear. PAPLNO should be used in conjunction with PAPLTP, which reports the corresponding time unit (days, weeks, months, or years).
Please see the Comparability and Universe tabs for changes in the universe between samples.
Comparability
Apart from changes in the universe, there are no comparability issues. Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the information was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
