Description

For sample adults, OTHFRUYR is a recoded variable that reports how many times per year the respondent consumed other fruit, such as fruit cocktails or berries (i.e., fruit other than oranges, grapefruit, cantaloupe, peaches, apples/applesauce, or bananas). This recoded variable is based on the responses to OTHFRUNO, which reports the frequency with which the respondent ate other fruit, and OTHFRUTP, which reports the corresponding time unit.

OTHFRUYR is part of a series of variables related to food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
