Description

For sample persons aged 18 and over in 1987 who had a job in the past 2 weeks and spent at least half of their work day inside their office buildings and, sample persons aged 18 and over who have a job with a private company or the federal, state, or local government and were employed during the past two weeks, NUMEMPS5PLUS reports whether there are at least 5 employees (in 1987) or at least 50 employees (in 1992) at the building or location where the sample person works.

Comparability

The variable is not comparable over time. The question in 1987 asked whether there were at least 5 other employees at work, while the question in 1992 asked whether there were at least 50 employees.

Universe

  • 1987: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from CAEP supplement) who had a job in the past 2 weeks and spent at least half of work day inside office building.
  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2, and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement) who have a job with a private company or the federal, state or local government and were employed during the past two weeks.
