Description

For all persons age 18 and over who said they were on full-time active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, NOWAF2 is a verification question that confirms whether the person was full-time active duty.

At the start of the interview, interviewers ask respondents about the Armed Forces status for each member of the household. The Field Representative's Manual indicates that the reference person for the survey should not be an Armed Forces member, but can be if no other person is eligible to be the reference person. However, the value of the final annual person weight (WTFA) for active duty military personnel is zero, so they will not be included in national (i.e., weighted) estimates. See the Survey Description Document for more information.

This was a new variable beginning in 2011.
