Description
MOVTURIN indicates whether the person had used a movement technique to treat urinary problems. Please see the Comparability and Universe tabs for more information on how this variable was constructed.
Comparability
In 2007, both sample adults and sample children could report treating urinary problems with a CAM therapy. However, in 2012 this condition was only included in the sample adult condition list for the CAM supplement.
Prior to 2012, in universe persons were asked about a series of specific health problems, symptoms, or conditions they may have treated with different complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies. Beginning in 2012, persons were instead asked to select three of sixteen therapies that were most important and only asked the series of questions related to treating health problems, symptoms, or conditions about these top three therapies. Respondents were only asked follow-up questions about the CAM therapies that they included among their top three CAM therapies. Persons who did not include movement techniques among their top three CAM therapies are recording as responding "no". For more information on the construction of this variable, please see TABDOM1.
MOVTURIN may be interpreted in conjunction with MOVALEXYR, MOVFELDYR, MOVPILATYR, and MOVTRAGYR, which indicate the specific movement technique used by the survey participant.
Universe
- 2007: Sample adults age 18+ and sample children under 18 who have seen a practitioner for movement technique during the past 12 months and have used movement technique for a specific health problem or condition.
- 2012: Sample adults age 18+ who have reported having at least one top CAM therapy and using this therapy to treat a specific health problem or condition.
