For sample adults in 2007, MOVALEX reports whether the person had ever seen a practitioner or teacher for Alexander Technique. Those who answered affirmatively were asked whether they had seen a practitioner or teacher for Alexander Technique in the past 12 months (MOVALEXYR). In 2007, information on the use of Alexander Technique during the past 12 months was also collected for sample children.
MOVALEX and related movement technique variables are part of a series of variables dealing with Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Although data on movement techniques were collected only in 2007, data on 15 other modalities of alternative medicine were collected through the Complementary and Alternative Medicine supplements in both 2002 and 2007. For more information about the Alternative Health supplements, see ACUYR. For more information about the full range of variables related to the use of movement techniques--including Alexander Technique, Feldenkreis, Pilates, and Trager Psychophysical Integration--see MOVALEXYR.
