Description

For sample persons ages 18 and over who lived with a problem drinker in their first 18 years or who identified another blood relative who was a problem drinker, MOTHALCEV indicates whether the person's mother (biological relationship unspecified) was not mentioned as an alcoholic or mentioned as an alcoholic who lived with the person in their first 18 years. For the version of this variable restricted to biological mothers, see BIOMALCEV.

This question is part of the 1988 alcohol use supplement. The person could report relationships for up to five problem drinkers he or she lived with and any additional blood relatives the person did not live with. Please use drop down menus for related variables.
