Description
For sample female adults age 18 and older, MENARCHFLAG reports whether the reported age when the respondent had her first menstrual period (MENARCH) is a reasonable value (categorized as menses onset between the ages of 9 and 17). Menses onset before age 9 or after age 17 are flagged as potentially unreasonable values.
MENARCHFLAG was first introduced in 1987, as part of a supplement on cancer epidemiology. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus.
