For sample persons under age 18 who have taken eight or more medicines in the past two weeks, MED2WDREC8 indicates if a doctor recommended the eighth type of medication the child is reported to have taken in the previous two weeks. Those who answered "yes" to MED2WRX8 have been recoded to 3 ("Doctor prescribed") in MED2WDREC8.

Persons are also asked about the type of eighth reported medication used MED2W8, the main health problem for which the eighth reported medication was used MED2WPROB8, whether or not a doctor prescribed the eighth reported medication MED2WRX8, and the frequency with which the eighth reported medication was taken in the past three months MED2WFREQ8.
