Description

MDSTDASK indicates whether the respondent was asked about sexually transmitted diseases during their last health check-up. In 1991, this question was asked of sample adults who ever had a routine physical or for whom it was unknown if they ever had a routine physical (PHYSICALYRS). In 1993, this question was asked of sample adults who ever had a physical (PHYSICALYRS). In 1994 and 1998, this question was asked of sample adults who had a physical exam in the past three years (PHYSICALYRS).

 

In 1991, interviewers asked, "During the last check-up, were you asked about...sexually transmitted diseases?" From 1993 onward, interviewers asked, "During this last check-up, were you asked about - Sexually transmitted diseases?"

Apart from universe changes, MDSTDASK is comparable among survey years.

Universe

  • 1991: Sample persons age 18+ who ever had routine physical or for whom it was unknown if they ever had a routine physical.
  • 1993: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 3 and 4 (excluded from AIDS supplement) who ever had a check-up.
  • 1994: Half of sample persons age 18-64 (excluded from AIDS supplement) who had a physical exam within past 3 years.
  • 1998: Sample adults age 18+ who had physical exam within past 3 years.
