Description

For sample persons who ever smoked before 2015 and sample adults aged 18 and older whose doctor or other health professional advised them to quit smoking or using other kinds of tobacco in the past 12 months in 2015, MDSMQUITEV reports whether a doctor ever advised the respondent to stop smoking.

MDSMQUITEV is one of a series of variables dealing with doctor advice.

  • 1976: Sample persons age 20+ who ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their entire life.
  • 1985: Sample persons age 18+ who were not asked questions from the smoking during pregnancy supplement (excludes women age 18-44).
  • 1990: Sample persons age 18+ who ever smoked.
  • 1991: Sample persons age 18+ who ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their entire life.
  • 2015: Sample adults 18+ whose doctor or other health professional advised them to quit smoking or using other kinds of tobacco in the past 12 months
