Description

For female sample persons who have ever heard of a mammogram and have had a mammogram in the past 3 years because of a health problem (in 1987) or a specific breast problem (in 1992), MAMLYOTHMED reports the problem for her most recent mammogram was some problem other than soreness, pain, swelling, lumps, fibrocystic breast disease (1992), thickening (1987), discharge (1987), or an unrelated medical problem (1987).

Related variable MAMYEVOTHMED (1987 only) reports whether female sample persons aged 40 and over who have ever had a mammogram because of a health problem had that mammogram because of some problem other than soreness, pain, swelling, lumps, thickening, discharge, or an unrelated medical problem.

Comparability

Apart from changes in the universe and in response categories, there are no comparability issues. Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the information was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
