Codes and Frequencies
Description
For a selected group of sample adults who reported that they had drank liquor in the past day, week, month, or year, LIQUORTP reports what type of unit is being referenced (day, week, month, or year). LIQUORTP should be used in conjunction with LIQUORNO, which reports the number of units and LIQUORSIZ, which indicates the size of each serving.
LIQUORTP was part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 dealing with food and food knowledge in the Cancer epidemiology supplement. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
Comparability
Apart from changes in the universe, there are no comparability issues. Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
