Description

For sample persons age 55 and older in 1984 and age 65 and older in 1986, who, due to a health or physical problem, has difficulty getting outside and reports using special equipment when doing this activity, LAGOUTEQPT1 reports the first type of equipment she/he uses. Persons could report up to two types of equipment used for this activity. Please use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus to find related variables, including additional types of special equipment reported.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1984: Sample persons age 55+ who have difficulty getting outside and use special equipment for going outside.
  • 1986: Persons age 65+ who have difficulty getting outside and use special equipment getting outside.
