Description

For sample persons age 55 and older in 1984 and age 65 and older in 1986, who, due to a health or physical problem, has difficulty getting in and out of bed and/or chairs and reports using special equipment when doing this activity, LABEDEQPT1 reports the first type of equipment she/he uses. See Codes tab for response categories.

Persons could report up to two types of equipment used for this activity. The second type of equipment, if reported, is available in another variable. Please use the drop-down menus or search function to find related variables.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
