Description
For sample children under age 18, KIDCHRONTOT is a recoded variable, which reports the total number of chronic conditions that the child had. Chronic was defined as a condition lasting three months or longer (or since birth, for infants less than three months old), which has not been cured. KIDCHRONTOT totals the values of KIDCHRON1 through KIDCHRON13.
KIDCHRONTOT was introduced in 1981 as part of the Child Health Supplement. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus.
