Description
KDNYTROUBEV reports whether the person has ever had "kidney stones or any other kidney trouble" in 1976 or "kidney disease" NOT including "kidney stones or bladder infection" in 1989. Please see Comparability and Universe tabs for more information on who is included in the universe for each sample.
In 1989, this question is complementary to DIAKIDTRUB, which was asked of all adults who have confirmed diabetes.

Comparability
Due to changes in question wording and universe, this variable is NOT comparable between samples.
In 1976, the family respondent reported for all persons, "Has anyone in the family EVER had kidney stones or any other kidney trouble?"
In 1989, the question was asked of sample adults who do not have confirmed diabetes. The person was asked, "Has a doctor EVER told you that you have kidney disease? Do not include kidney stones or bladder infection." In 1989, this question is complementary to DIAKIDTRUB, which was asked of all adults who have confirmed diabetes.
