Description

For sample adults, JUICEMYR is a recoded variable that reports how many times the respondent consumed juice in a year. This only includes 100% fruit juice; it does not include fruit drinks such as Kool-Aid, lemonade, cranberry juice cocktail, Hi-C or Tang. JUICEMYR is based on the variables JUICEMNO, which reports the frequency with which the respondent drank 100% fruit juice, and JUICEMTP, which reports the corresponding time unit.

JUICEMYR is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 related to food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

In 2005, the format of separate frequency and time units was not used; instead respondents' answers were organized into pre-defined categories. Researchers interested in using all years of available data may consider seeing the 2005 variable JUICEMO, and modifying JUICEMNO and JUICEMTP to correspond to the pre-defined categories from 2005.
