Description

For all injury episodes that occurred during the past 3 months and occurred while the person was a driver or passenger of a vehicle, IRMVTYP reports the type of vehicle injured person was in at the time of the episode.

IRMVTYP is an injury-level variable.

IRMVTYP is part of a series of variables initiated in 1997 that systematically report persons' injuries and poisonings, the cause, what the person was doing while sustaining the injury or poisoning, and where she/he was at the time of the injury or poisoning. Comparability

In 2004, the response categories "Airplane", "Boat", and "Train" were removed and the response category "Industrial or construction vehicle" was added. The meaning of "other" is not consistent between the 1997-2003, and 2004-forward surveys.
