Description
For all injury and/or poisoning episodes for persons over 4 years old who had at least one injury or poisoning during the past 3 months and needed assistance with personal care because of in the injury/poisoning at the time of the interview, IRCARE6MO reports whether or not the injured person expected to need the help of other people for personal care as a result of the injury or poisoning for 6 months or more. Personal care needs include eating, bathing, dressing, or getting around the house as a result of the injury or poisoning.
IRCARE6MO is an injury-level variable.
IRCARE6MO is part of a series of variables initiated in 1997 that systematically report persons' injuries and poisonings, the cause, what the person was doing while sustaining the injury or poisoning, and where she/he was at the time of the injury or poisoning. Comparability
In 1997-1999, this variable only includes injury episodes of persons older than 4 years of age that require help with personal care needs as a result of the injury. Beginning in 2000, it includes injury AND poisoning episodes of persons older than 4 years of age that require help with personal care needs as a result of the injury.
Universe
- 1997-1999: All injuries of persons older than 4 years of age that require help with personal care needs as a result of the injury.
- 2000-2003: All injuries and poisoning episodes of persons older than 4 years of age that require help with personal care needs as a result of the injury.
