INTERIMWT
Weight - Interim Annual

Codes

INTERIMWT is an 8-digit numeric variable with three implied decimal places. That is, values of 01234567 should be interpreted as 1234.567. The command files delivered with IPUMS extracts automatically divide INTERIMWT by 1,000, so no further adjustment is needed.

Description

For all sample adults and sample children, INTERIMWT reports the interim annual weight. Format of data has three implied decimals (XXXXX.XXX). Prior to 2019, this variable was available for all persons.

IPUMS NHIS does not recommend using this weight for analyses of the NHIS data, as this weight does not include post-stratification adjustments (age, race/ethnicity, sex) to the civilian, non-institutionalized U.S. population using Census Bureau population control totals. Users should see the User Note - Sampling Weights for more information on the different weight variables offered through IPUMS NHIS.

Comparability

This variable is completely comparable prior to 2019.

The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
