Description

For sample adults, IMSPED reports whether, in the past 12 months, they have taken any prescription medication or had any medical treatments that a doctor or other health professional said would weaken their immune system. The 2020 NHIS questionnaire lists the following examples: "steroid or corticosteroid pills, such as prednisone, or other oral or injected medications for treating many types of autoimmune conditions or certain cancers."

In 2020, this question was only fielded in quarters 3 and 4.

Comparability

This variable is comparable over time; however, users should note that in 2020 this question was only fielded beginning in quarter 3. Analysts will need to adjust the sampling weight to account for the limited collection period. For an example of how to do this, including sample code, please see the sampling weight adjustment section of the Variance Estimation User Note.
