Description

HRPROB indicates whether the respondent or anyone in the respondent's family has a hearing problem. In 1990 and 1991, the questionnaire included separate questions on whether any family member had deafness or trouble hearing in one or both ears.

The 1984 survey text was substantively different, as the question asked was, "Do you now have ---[d]eafness in one of both ears?" This could be a more significant problem then a unspecified "hearing problem"
