Description

For persons who live in a house/apartment that is owned or mortgaged by their family, HOMAMTINT reports the current market value of the house or apartment that the person lives in, coded into 7 monetary brackets and top coded at $500,000 or more.

The current market value of the house or apartment should exclude the contents such as furniture. Business space is also considered as part of the value of the house. However, the value of the business itself and its associated equipment and supplies are not part of the current market value of the house.

HOMAMTINT is part of the Family Resources supplement that provides information on individuals' health benefits, amount of coverage and income received from employment, welfare benefits, public assistance, and savings.

Questions in the Family Resources supplement are different from those in the core survey in terms of the content and the treatment of missing data. Questions in the Family Resources were normally asked of the month prior to the interview while the core survey asked of the last calendar year. Missing data in the Family Resources supplement were imputed by NHIS. Users can refer to the imputation flag variable HOMVLIMFL to identify persons with imputed data.
