Description
For persons with a private insurance plan whose policyholder is on the family roster but the plan covers a child or children living outside the household, HIP1KID18OUT reports (for the first plan) the number of children age 0 to 18 years who are covered by the plan.
The NHIS provides data for the first two private insurance plans reported. Individuals with more than two private plans have a "2" reported for the variable HIPRIVGT2.
This variable can be used to monitor the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
