Description

For persons who did not have continuous coverage in the past year without any changes in coverage, HINONEYR reports whether in the past 12 months, the person had no health insurance.

If the person was uninsured, interviewers asked the type of coverage the person most recently had. If the person had a period without coverage in the past year, interviewers asked about the type of coverage before this period. If person had a change in coverage type in the past year, interviewers asked about the type of coverage prior to the change in coverage.

This variable can be used to monitor the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Comparability

There are no comparability problems for HINONEYR.

Universe

  • 2011-2013; 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018: All persons who are currently uninsured or who are currently insured but, in the past 12 months, had a change in health insurance coverage (including a change in type or periods without health insurance).
