Description
For sample adults who never had hepatitis or for whom it was unknown whether they ever had hepatitis (HEPATEV), HEPLIVE reports answers to the question, "Have you ever lived with someone who had hepatitis?"
Hepatitis, which was not defined in the survey documentation, is an inflammation of the liver caused by a viral infection.
Comparability
Prior to 2019, this variable is comparable over time. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. Universe
- 2000-2018: Sample adults age 18+ who never had hepatitis or for whom it was unknown whether they ever had hepatitis.
- 2021: Sample adults 18+ who did not ever have hepatitis or refused or don't know (HEPATEV)
