Description
This variable indicates if the respondent was ever told by a doctor that they had a heart attack, heart failure, a chronic heart condition, or rheumatic heart disease. Definitions of these terms were not provided to respondents and were respondent-defined.
Related Variables
For 1985, 1990, 1997-2009, HEARTCONEV identifies sample adults whom a doctor or other health professional ever diagnosed as having any kind of heart condition or disease other than coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, or a heart attack (myocardial infarction).
