Description

For sample adults and sample children, GOTWAGE indicates whether they or any family members 18 or older received income from wages, salaries, commissions, bonuses, tips, or self-employment during the previous calendar year. Prior to 2019, GOTWAGE was asked only of sample adults.

• Dividends or net rental income (GOTDIV);

• Interest income (GOTINT);

Comparability

Prior to 2019, this variable is comparable over time. Comparability may be affected by the 2019 questionnaire redesign. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. In addition, sample children were added to the universe in 2019.
