Description
For sample adults who were ever told they have glaucoma, (GLAUCOMAEV), this variable identifies whether persons lost any vision because of the glaucoma.
[show more]The Field Representative's Manual defined glaucoma as "an increase in pressure in the eye which causes damage. If not treated soon enough, glaucoma can destroy side vision, leaving a small area in the center where the person still sees." This definition was not routinely shared with persons.
Comparability
This variable is largely comparable over time. Users should note that the NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content.
