Description

For sample persons age 18 and older who are former smokers and didn't stop smoking for sickness only, FSQWHYOTH indicates if the person mentioned a reason she/he tried to stop smoking other than pregnancy, cost of cigarettes, concern about current/future health, or pressure from friends/family. Please see the Universe tab for detailed information regarding who was asked this question.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.
