Codes and Frequencies
For sample adults and sample children between the ages of 4 and 17 in 2012, FOKBOOKP reports the amount paid for self-help books or other materials used to learn about traditional healers and/or folk medicine.
FOKBOOKP is part of a series of variables from the 2012 supplements on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. In that year, respondents were asked about their use of traditional healing and folk medicine and other modalities of alternative medicine. For more information about the Alternative Health supplements and the full range of variables related to traditional healing and folk medicine, see FOKYR.
Additional information about the use of traditional healing and folk medicine was collected for respondents who reported using traditional healing and folk medicine in the past 12 months, including variables on frequency and cost of use. Please use the IPUMS NHIS drop-down menus and search function to explore these variables.
